Workshop 1 - Digital Business
Chair: Prof Ian Bitterlin, Principal Consultant
Critical Facilites Consulting Ltd

This workshop discusses low-energy, sustainable data centres.  Participants are invited to bring along all their ideas, questions, fears and challenges as to how create and operate data centres as IF low-energy is the ONLY driver, and to discuss why low-energy may often NOT be the only driver for data centre design.  We shall include both sides of the decimal point in the PUE debate

Speaker: Alan Beresford, Managing Director
ROOM F1, LEVEL F - 3rd floor
Workshop 2 -Automation (AI/IoT)
Chair: Venessa Moffat, Marketing Consultant, Agile Momentum

This workshop focusses on how AI and IOT will be used within the data centre environment to help improve data centre operations/management through obtaining a much better, and real-time, quality of data on which to base decisions with the overall objective of optimising data centre performance. It will discuss what impact the widespread uptake of AI, IoT, RPA, ML, even VR will have on the evolution of the data centre

Software and AI is altering the nature of the skillsets that traditionally plied their trade in the Data Centre.  What does this mean for current and future generations of DC specialists?  This workshop will challenging you to consider how apprenticeships, university and academy courses may need to evolve to support this shift.”

Additional Speaker: Terri Simpkin, Higher and Further Education Principal -CNet Training CNET; Simon Brady, DC Optimisation Program Manager -Vertiv; Rabih Bashroush, Director, Enterprise Computing Research Lab - UEL
ROOM F1, LEVEL F - 3rd floor
Workshop 4 - Energy
Chair: James Kirkwood, Head of Critical Services - EkkoSense

Global data centres used + 400 terawatts (3% of the total electricity used) last year which is almost 40% more than the entire UK and this consumption and its expected to (at least) double every four years*. Work has been done in DCs to reduce energy consumption but even leveraging new technologies to generate and store power, demand will outstrip supply -  we must find another way - this panel will discuss practical approaches and solutions to address this problem’ *Forbes

Workshop 5 - Hybrid DC
Chair: Mark Seymour, Future Facilities - TBC

Air cooled data centres are getting more efficient and with a PUE of <1.1 some may argue that the 0.1 isn’t worth worrying about and let’s focus on the 1.0. If it’s simple, not too costly and works – why fix it? However, liquid cooling has been widely accepted in the HPC community offering great efficiency, greater potential for heat recovery and the ability to accommodate those high density racks that are increasingly popular. This workshop panel discusses some of the options available and asks the question ‘Can’t liquid cooling and air cooling run side by side?’
